Follow up week 8

How effective is the author’s description of the Mountain Beast? (Pg.123) it can paint a picture n your mined. Maybe the arthor could explain what it dose. Like how it moves

What images do you get in your head? This dark creature living in a deep dark cave. The legs ang feet are covered in a mixere of dark green ang a swampy moldey green ang lots of more greens. Short twisted horns.

What issues are raised about animals in captivity in the real world in this last chapter? They can get sick, by eating the wrong thing.

What is your stance on these issues? Anamails are getting instinked.

How does the author use the incident in the lake to surprise the reader? It didn't talk about the kingdom until after they crossed the river. It was like the story was going on and you would ecxpect them to go somewhere else but then it was kind of a surprise for me because it just said they arived at the kingdom.

Inquiry writing

As Troy was calling people's names of what groups they where in I was buzzing like a happy and excited bumble bee. “YAY!” I am in Suzzanes group. Where making arcade games out of cardboard.. I was exploding with ideas that I wanted to start NOW! But i couldn't. So next week came and we started to make! “Yay” my favourite part! “sniff, sniff.. Yuck! Sawdust!. The brown dusty sawdust went everywhere! I swept it up so it was out of the way. my burning hot glue gun was burning my hands and my melting glue sticks was dripping as I started to glue. So in an hour I was done! I only needed to paint! the smell of paint Yuck!. To me paint never smells very good. the slimy paint dripping down my fingers. Wow what a mess! I never knew how much I could of done by myself though I felt a bit lonely on the way. Ok I felt more than lonely. I felt like I was in the forest alone but that's not the point. I am super excitied for next years inquiry!

Inquiry

For inquiry I am in Suzzanes group. Where doing canes arcade. Where making arcade games out of cardboard and other matirals. I decided to work by myself because i knew if I work in a group there would be augments along the way and I didn't want to deal with arguments!  I am making a marble maze. 

It would benefit the school by... If we wanted to have a fundraiser to by something/s for the school we could bring the games in and pay $1 dollar for one game and $2 dollars for loads of games and that money would go to the school. 

I wanted my game to be unic and I wanted to make something that hasn't been created yet. If it was already created... "Opps" :0 well it was my idea.

I think I am a Self Directed learner because I'm a driver for others and if the teachers give me some work lets say making blog posts I would add on some things from home.

The goal that I am currently working on is purposely put my self in the learning pit

The things I need to do to achieve this goal is when I do something let's say maths I take my learning ferther and I might want to do the activities that takes longer and that are harder.

Reading follow up (inside the game)

Activity: Both Amy and Chris are only children, do you think being an only child might help you connect to the way they think and act? Why/Why Not? I'm not sure because I'm not the only child but I talked to Atlanta and she says Yes because she knows what it's like. My answer: Yes because they would know what it's like.

“Amy got up from her chair. I get sick of all this sort of stuff. Fighting, Fighting …” What questions can you ask about violence in video games? Do you think video game makers rely on violence to sell video games? What is your opinion? 1Why do most people like violence in video games? 2 yes because most kids like violence so they would like to buy it.

Follow up:
Why do you think the author introduces a typical fairy-tale type of princess? Because most people want to save a fary tail prinsess.

 Do you think this style of princess make Chris more or less likely to want to save her? Yes

Why do you think the author constructed the setting from the game in so much detail? Because if there was no detail nobody would want to play it. Or buy it.

What purpose is there behind using so much detail? People would like to know more before they buy it. 

My quick write story the Halloween treat

The day before Halloween Naomi came round with a big box. "Surprise!" "Hi Naomi! What's in the box?" "Oh.. Just some... Halloween decorations! To go outside and inside our tree house!" "Wow that's sound cool! When should we start decorating?" "NOW!" "Well... Ok..." So we started to decorate... As soon as we were done we went inside but as we opened the door to go inside we heard some spookie noises. "Umm... Was the decorations the one that makes sounds?" I asked. "No. I don't think so" we turned around. There was a ginormous pumpkin behind us laffing. It was one of those laffs that villains make in movies or programs on TV. We ran inside and locked all the doors and windows. "Wasn't that a decoration?" "Yyy... Yes... I think so " We were both horrified! "Let's tell your mum" "ok" so as we dragged my mum to the back garden the pumpkin wasn't there! " don't be silly! it must of been your imageanation..." Said my mum. We saw a small pumpkin. "The decoration!" So Naomi stayed for the night. We watched movies and played minecraft all night! The next day we got our Halloween costumes ready. So on that very night we went tricker treating! Yay! We got lots of candy and we ate some on the way home. When we got back to my house my dad was watching the news. "Oh thank goodness you girls are back! Help me lock all the doors and windows! Now!" "Ok... But why?" "Every 10th Halloween a pumpkin decoration comes alive! the next day when it looks like a decoration we have destroy it!" "Ok!" So Naomi stayed for another night!" Early in the morning... Maybe 8:00 am (achilly 4:45am) we went outside to destroy the pumpkin. It was still dark. We took turns at holding the torch and hitting it with a spade and a hammer. "Ok done" so hope you all enjoyed the story! Remember that didn't happen! The end! (It's a fake story)

Descovory time

Today for descovory time I played minecraft.
I showed creativity by starting to create something with Naomi that know body has thought about.
I showed agency by thinking I should do this and then Naomi was like oh i was going to do that! Thanks! ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿ˜›๐Ÿ˜€๐Ÿ˜Š 
I showed excellence by helping Naomi.
Next week for descovory time I am going to carry on with what I was doing which was playing minecraft.

Te Reo portfolio sample

Description: Every Monday afternoon we do Te Reo. Not every one in Poutama does Te Reo. If you don't do Te Reo you do kapa haka and if you don't do Kapa haka you do Te Reo. At the start of the term you get to choose what group your in but once your in Kapa haka your in. You can't just say oh today I'm going to do Kapa haka and next week I'm going to do Te Reo! Anyway in Te Reo we learn the Maori  language.
Here is the poster that Devin and I made.

Big idea: you might remember last term we did a movie about food. Now this term we are doing it about the body parts. We drew a person then labled all the body parts in English then we searched the Maori body parts and labled them by the English words.

Feedback/feedforawd: I think that you and Devin done a good job at the poster and next time can you please change the writing cos I can't read some of the words : ) from naomi

Evaluation: it's cool how every term we change focases like last term we did food and this term we did body parts. My challenge is to try to remember 3 body parts in Maori because I forget Easley. Next time I make a poster I might change the colour of the words or if I'm working with Devin again I might tell her to change the colour.

Passion protect term 3

WALT use the PASSION inquiry process to investigate my passion independently/in small groups

MY PASSION PROJECT INQUIRY IS… saving the animals for the SPCA (raising money for the SPCA so they can buy toys and food and nice warm blankets for the animals) 

Description: I wanted to save the animals and buddied up with Devin, Sophie, Olivia and the SPCA cupcake crew and made loads of cupcakes in school time. We also decorated them! We sold the cupcakes we made and gave the money to the SPCA. Some people even made some cupcakes and gave them to us to sell! In total we raised $840 dollars!!! :) 


Big idea: a passion project is when your passionate about something and bring it to life this term I worked with Devin again and Olivia F. My main passion is baking but I know next term I will be really interested in something else because minds change.

Evaluation: next time I think there should be lines because this year every one was crowding around.

Maths portfolio sample

Description: Monday to Thursday we do maths after brunch. (Morning tea) We do matinance in groups.    There are 3 groups. I think Ellys doing stage 5, troys doing late stage 6 wich means there really close to be doing stage 7. Some of them are on stage 7. And Kate's doing early stage 6 wich means you just moved on to stage 6 or something else. After that we move on and we do independent learning. We have a book with lots of questions and then we have to answer them in our real maths book. If you are not doing your independent learning you will be in a work shop.

Big idea: You might see every one of them ether says.. KF or PV I can explained that! PVP means place value patisaning. That means when you have a big number you split the numbers up that you can work with. KF means Known Facts. That means you use the facts you already know. 

Feedback/feedfoward: I think you do a good job at PVP. I think you could improve on known facts because there are a lot of scribbles so maybe you rethinked your answer but other than that I think you did a good job. From Zara 

Evaluation: I think I'm good at rounding and compensating but I think I could work on Known Facts a bit more. I dont use that strategie a lot and i want to get used to it and also use that stratigie when I'm working a problem out.

Description: Every Monday and Thursday we have writing. There are 3 diffrent groups. Kates doing words, Troys doing sentenses and Rebecca's doing ideas. I'm doing ideas with Rebecca. We have 3 sheets in our writing book. At the start of the term we look at our writing and tick/tallymark the sheets in our writing book and that tells us and the teachers what we need to work on. My goal in ideas is... (drum roll please!) I have stuck to the main points! that means all the imformation I include in my story is relevant and important to the story.

Evaluation; When I saw the picture i knew exacly what i was going to write about! I think I'm getting better at my goal. (Stuck to the main points) and i added a clue at the start. Next time I write a story I might add more clues.

Production

Description: as you might know our production is coming up. We are making our things were going to where. We can't buy stuff unless no body has it but we are trying to recycle stuff we have. There are 3 groups. There's... Elements with Troy (earth, wind, fire and water) Rebecca's doing heros and vilins and Lucky last Kate's doing out of Africa. I'm doing elements with Troy and I'm earth. (We get to chose what we are!)

1) The materials that I used to create my garment were:
Painted cardboard, milk bottle tops/lids, green wool/yarn, old green t shirt, a pencil, feathers, ribon, old green scrubber, glitter, old green fabric, old white fabric, 2 fake flowers, fake leaves, fake red flowers, paper, paint and a old brown skirt.

2) The most challenging thing about production for me was: 
recycling. I was like ok I'm going to do this but then after I did it I was like wait! I don't have any thing that's recycled on my garment. so I had a quick brain storm in my head and then went to the break out space where some recycled things where. Then thought where they where going on my garment. then I glued them on.

3) One way I demonstrated a growth mindset during production was:
I went strait into work.

4) Something I am really proud of about production was:
 that I didn't have the stuff to make my dress that I wanted but I was proud of using the stuff that I had to make my garment.

Reading porfilio sample team 3 tic tac toes

Description: my goal is quistioning. You can chose quistioning or sumurizing. I'm quistioning I thought that was the hardest and I want to put myself in the learning pit and I don't normally question when I read. Quistioning is when you ask questions before during and after. We book work shops every Monday. You book the work shops that's your goal. In our work shops we learn thin and thick questions and more... Your probily going to ask "whats a tic tac toe?" Well il anser that! We have a chart of what we can do. There are 9 things and you have to put at least 1 thing on your blog.



The big idea: I think the work shops are really helping me because now I question but I think I can question a bit more. The work shops are helping me to question more.

et reo

Description: every Monday some people go to kappa Haka and the people who don't go to Kappa Haka are doing et reo. I do et reo! we learn the Maori language and sing some Maori song.
This is a video with me, Kayla and Rebekah. Where asking etchother what we like and don't like in Maori. Here's our video!
Big idea: Can you figure out what we said?
We said... "He pai Ki a koe ngฤ panana?" Means do you like bananas? "Kฤore e pai Ki a Hau ngฤ pananas" means I don't like bananas! "He pai Ki a koe te Keke?" Means do you like cake? " Ae he pai Ki ahau te Keke!" That means I do like cake! 

Feedback/feedfoward: 

Eveloation: It was a bit hard to pronounce the Moari words but I got there in the end! Maybe I could practice so I'm cofondent when ever we have to make another video. 

Writing with Elly

Description: In writing we have been working on a story. Elly gave us all a little picture that had a man and a monster on it. That picture gave us some impsperrasion for our story. Our stories are mosty all basted on the picture. my goal is to write complex sentences. I plan to finish this by the end of term 3. This is my picture and plan.

Task 1 maths

Description: The teachers made a poster and it had some photos of things you can buy from Rebel sport. The poster had prices and there where 4 questions. In our maths groups we had a talk about what we had to do. We did the first stage five quistion together then we went away and chose our stage and did your questions.


Big idea:
The questions where...
1) have a sum more than $550 
That means you add 2 things on the poster that adds close to $550. 
2) have a sum exactly $426
3) have a difference between $40 and $60
That means 2 things adding together that's embetween $40 and $60
4) have a difference of $134 

I used rounding and compensating. That's when you plus your hundreds together then plus your tens then ones then add all your answers together then that final answer is your real answers.

Evaluation: I used Rounding and compinsating but is a bit too easy so I thought that I could put myself in the pit by doing something a bit harder but not too hard that I can't do it!  My new goal is reversibility.

My inquiry about Owls

Description: We have inquiry every Thursday. We got to choose an animail and find more about it. As you can see from my title my animal is an owl. 

Purpose: to think like a sinceist

Big idea: I looked at lots of websites and got some facts but some of the facts wernt about why there nocturnal. I like owls but I wanted to know more about why there nocturnal. I knew they where nocturnal but I wanted to know why. Look at my poster and there's 3 answers. I decided to make a pic collage because lots of people where doing slides. 

Feedback/feedforword: good job on your poster abby. I like how you stayed on track with your question.
I think you could work on putting what you know,what you found out and what your predictions are.

Tic tac toe

Description: My goal is to expand my vocabulary. We go to 2 work shops every week. Said is an overused word that people use in there writing. I made a pic collage filled of words that you can use instead of said.

Success criteria: I normally read on but I need to work on re read. When ever I read if I'm stuck on a word I could use one of these to help me. On the book mark there is an example of each one.
Read on means read two or three sentences and it might give you the what the words means.
Re read means read two or three sentences that came before the word you where stuck on and see if there is any clues to see what that word means.
List of words sometimes other words give you clues to help you work out what it means.
Base or root word if you recognise a part of the word that you know it might help you figur out the meaning.
Cause of effect sometimes a sentence can help you make a prediction about what a word means.
Synonyms Authors sometimes use synonymous in the same sentence to help you figur out new words.
Comparisons and contrast the sentence may contain a comparison or a contrast that gives you helpful clues.

Big idea: the teachers made a tic tac toe board. The tic tac toe board is filled of activitys for the expanding vocabulary people and the comprehension people. You can choose an activity and then do it. 

Feedback/feedfoword: I think you did well on finding the words that meant the same as said but I think you should work on finding a few more words to put on your poster

Every week we learn about skills and movement that will help us play sports. This term’s focus has been around defense. We made a video showing some of the goals we have been practicing. I have highlighted the thing I think I have done well YELLOW and one thing I would like to work on PINK.

  • Weight on balls of feet
  • Feet shoulder width apart

Discovery time

Description: In discovery time me, Sophie, Aria, Zara and Tayla made a dress and headband. We still havent finished the dress but we have finished the head band. Everyfriday we have disvcovery time, We get a list of what we can chose and chose one of them we are pashinite about. We showed creativity, because we thought out of the box and used different colours. Tayla is the model. We where making a green and white dress with a little blue. I made a head band.
